Historical facts about Artesia 

The name of the City derives from the Spanish word “Artesian Aquifer.” according to Wikipedia. Artesia is an incorporated city (1959) within Los Angeles county. The citys’ iconic water tower used to be green and has a somewhat mysterious past. Back in the 1920s and 1930s, Dutch and Portuguese farmers settled in the area. At that time, Artesia, as it is known today, was an agricultural-based village. However, the vibrant and multi-ethnic City has significantly transformed from the rural beginnings of dairy farms. New Electric Bus Service (ride for free)

One of the things to do in Artesia CA is the new electric bus service. If you want to park and explore without having to drive in downtown Artesia, you might want to ride the (free) City Electric Bus Service, which runs every Thursday – Saturday from 8 AM. – 5 PM. There are 12 pick-up spots, allowing you to explore the various shopping options, parks, and downtown Artesia.

Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon in Artesia Park

Are you going to spend the Thanksgiving in Artesia, Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon is one of the fantastic things to do in Artesia CA. The City will hold a Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM on November 16, 2021. Enjoy time outside, connect with other senior residents and enjoy Thanksgiving favorites at this community event. Many seniors are unfortunately alone or away from family during the holidays.

Ten days of Automotive delight 

If the roar of an engine and candy paint send your heart racing, then you cannot miss one of the terrific things to do in Artesia CA, the epic annual event, which will take place November 19, 2021 – November 28, 2021, at the Los Angeles convention center. With over 100 expected participants, there will be no shortage of automotive fun at the 2021 LA Auto Show. Highlights include several car debuts, fully interactive demonstrations, indoor and outdoor test drives (100), virtual reality, professional driver demonstrations, and even an all-electric test-ride track! 

Explore Little India; no flight required 

Fans of Indian food and culture should not miss a visit to the International Cultural District in Artesia. Hundreds of Indian businesses from restaurants, grocers, clothing, textiles, sundries, and much more are along Pioneer Boulevard between 183rd and 188th. Fans of Indian cuisine can pick up any variety of spices, condiments, chutneys, and specialty ingredients necessary for the next home-cooked Indian feast.

If your sweet tooth kicks in, pay a visit to Saffron Spot; they specialize in exotic ice cream and frozen desserts that are uniquely Indian and savory treats. Saffron Spot opened in 2005 with four ice cream flavors. Saffron Silk (saffron ice cream mingled with rose and pistachios) was their original offering and remains a fan favorite sixteen years later. 

Bundle up for Ice Skating 

Despite it being mid-November, it is not unheard of for Los Angeles temperatures to soar to 80, even 90 degrees! So catch a break from the heat and pull out your winter clothes, then head to the East West Ice Palace. Real Snow in Artesia?

That’s right! one of the things to do in Artesia CA this fall is to enjoy the upcoming seasonal celebration. There will be actual real snow play areas at the upcoming Winter Wonderland & Holiday Tree Lighting. This Friday night (December 3, 5:00 – 7:30 PM) seasonal celebration will be an evening of fun for the whole family. Other wintry festivities will include holiday vendors, music, hot cocoa, and holiday lights.
